Elections in Oregon, measures 66 and 67 | The future of Haiti.

On January 26, Oregon voters have to be expressed on two tax measures, the 66 and 67. In the USA the citizens of the states vote their own laws and campaign for them in a way similar to the elections office.

The 66 and 67 would increase taxes on corporations and household incomes in excess of $ 250,000 dollars annually. 90% of money raised would go for the financing of public education, health and law enforcement in Oregon. As everyone can guess, only a small minority would be affected by these measures. For several decades, corporations in Oregon pay only ten dollars in symbolic profits. The economic crisis has made the state's coffers are emptied to endanger the most basic public services in the state.

The 66 and 67 are as enemies to several sectors that have chosen to spend in the campaign for the NO almost more than they would have to pay under the new measures. Supported the Republican Party and the FOX News Corporation and its affiliates. They are the organizers of the tea party . Convinced thousands of patriots who believe that the best they can do for your country is to oppose anything that could benefit the current government. And of course, are the same who oppose universal health plan, measures to curb climate change, to close Guantanamo, the International Criminal Court . The usual, those who call themselves Christians but do not believe in the distribution of wealth, those who defend the right to life but support preventive wars and the death penalty. They are those who look askance at immigrants, environmentalists, homosexuals, those who speak Spanish in public, the rest of the world and especially a president called Barack Hussein Obama.

If it were not so sad the situation, even fascinating to observe the political dynamics that make individuals may come to defend extreme positions that are clearly contrary to their interests and values they claim to defend.

To discuss this topic we are now participating in our program of journalist and photographer Paulina Hermosillo and the celebrated Peruvian writer and professor at Western Oregon University Eduardo Gonzalez Viana. With these measures and analyze their arguments.

In the second part of the program dealt with the situation in Haiti following recent earthquakes. They discussed possible future scenarios for the devastated country. The impact on the Dominican Republic and the politicization of the tragedy in the U.S..

Our dear collaborator Eduardo Gonzalez Viana tells us about his trip to Peru where he was awarded the Medal of Honor from Congress.

U.S.: Protests Against Obama-The Tea Party

Fiesta de té en Salem, Oregon

Tea Party in Salem, Oregon

On April 15 more than half a million Americans took to the streets to express their discontent with the political direction the new administration initiated by Obama. The festivities of Tea (Tea Parties) refer to the Boston Tea Party in 1773, one of the triggers episodes of the War of Independence of the United States. The governor of Texas, Republican Rick Perry, led the largest concentration of its state. After the event, in clear reference to the Obama administration, Gov. Perry came to mention the secession of Texas as a future risk to the federal government's increasing interference in state affairs.

The protesters accused the new president to cement the destruction of the country in economic, socio-political and spiritual. These events have had wide coverage in the U.S., mainly by television and radio on the Fox and its affiliates who have been the main promoters of the protests. Interestingly, international media have barely covered the subject. There was weekly online and here we experience them.
